04:37 pm - About time!
After having nothing to say about Robin Williams for a month (although that's probably a relief for some of you :P), now I have finally SOMETHING to get my mind back on him. Last year it was said he filmed a segment for Sesame Street (just like 20 years ago), and for some reason they decided to make us wait until 2012 to see it. Well, here it is now! Yes, tis short. Yes, it doesn't make such good use of his talents as his 1991 appearances (although he still is fluent in Two-Headed Monster XD). But I still love it. Hopefully, a whole new generation of kids will grow up loving him as I did (of course, since he doesn't do as much as he used to, it's not like you can take them to a new RW movie every year, as was the case with me. So that's what home entertainment is for) It really warms the cockles of my heart just to see him.
Oh, and the film Absolutely Anything, starring the remaining Pythons and RW and directed by Terry Jones (as I wrote about last year) is really in the works! Now let's hope this gets off the ground, because this is the film I have been waiting for since I was 12! *happydance*

ACTA in a Nutshell –
What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”
What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Jesus Christ, just when I thought I could finally start working on my projects without a sense of futility again... D: Now where the hell do I go to sign petitions to stop this?
December 31st, 2011
I was supposed to write something here today. Something long, humorous, and profound. But every time I try to think of everything I meant to write, I freeze up. Everything I thought of as December approached, the jokes, the rants, the lists... all too much for me now. I am exhausted. I have been since September. Spending the last few months of the year in and out of the hospital with injuries and sickness and potentially deadly side effects of medication is no way to live. On top of that, I've had to deal with strained friendships, an increasingly infuriating home life, money problems... some of that is same old same old, but frankly as time ticks away, everything just feels bleaker and bleaker. In June I'll be 25... how much longer until I finally hit the big time? How much longer do I get to move away from these friggin' people (who once again decided that the hallway outside my room can double for a daycare center on New Year's Eve)? What if in 10 years I'm still this clueless about life? Or am I subconsciously trying to remain as clueless as possible to preserve whatever innocence I have left? I don't know... all I know is that those FREAKING KIDS ARE MAKING IT HARD FOR ME TO CONCENTRATE ON TYPING THIS. Meanwhile, an election looms upon us, and with a country full of backlashing conservatives and disillusioned liberals, I'm not feeling to confident about the future. If any Republican wins, we women are screwed. And once we're screwed, we'll be forced to have the baby (darkest wordplay ever right there). Also, despite popular belief, SOPA was not defeated, just put aside because of all the interruptions. Congress could start talking about it any day in January, so we can't just dick around like everything's going to be okay. Time to start signing petitions and calling senators again. We HAVE to defeat this.
Fuck it, I'll do a humorous 2011 recap tomorrow. Maybe. I think I have a leeway of a week to do that before I just look stupid.

07:37 pm - Christmas eve gifts ;)
Since I am generous and all, making sure I won' be the Same Old Santa (at least not too much) :). Anyway, the YouTube gods have bestowed upon me even MORE Robert "Exidor" Donner on Match Game. First up: Remember that last entry with poor Bob getting pounced by that crazy bee-yotch Rachelle? Well, here's the aftermath, and it's a full episode! And the poor guy is scared to death, along with some of the other panelists! God damn, that woman is so crazy (HOW CRAZY IS SHE?) that I, a now ardent feminist wasn't offended when RD said he'd punch her in the face. They mention Mork & Mindy at the end and make a reference to Jonathan Winters playing the son so this must have been just before season 4.
And then I found a totally different one, sadly with the fabulous Brett Somers absent, but still enough silliness and weirdness to be awesome (including the line "What do you expect from Exidor?"). And the best part is it's not taped from GSN, but THE ORIGINAL BROADCAST! Yeah, someone in 1981 was well-off enough to have a VCR! And 30 years later they shared this with us! :D
You know I've noticed how RD doodles on the answer cards sometimes. That's awesome. :D And if you're wondering why I'd had such a RD/Exidor dealy this year, I honestly don't know why! Maybe it's because after you keep watching one show over and over, you still love the title characters but at the same time start to get fascinated with the side ones... especially those that steal a scene from ROBIN FUCKIN' WILLIAMS. Or maybe at this time in my life I'm starting to identify with Exidor's insanity. Who knows. All I know is that he was taken from us too soon, as were Brett and Charles. That whole upper tier man, they're the best.
But lest you've feared I've forgotten Robin altogether, don't. I just watched Mork's First Christmas (my new personal tradition) and now as another personal tradition I shall share with you RW reading 'Twas The Night Before Christmas! :D Doesn't it make you feel like a kid again!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! (And just so you know, if you live near Downtown Berkeley and you're non-Christian or the Bumpus hounds ate your dinner or you just plain get bored in that time between the presents and Christmas dinner and you're sick of Chinese food, come on down to the Triple Rock Brewery/restaurant, because yes, they will be open tomorrow! :D )

More Robert Donner on Match Game, unfortunately this time he becomes the victim of a glomp attack by one batshit crazy contestant. Poor guy. Even if he was in character as Exidor he would still be thinking "Damn, bitch be crazy!". Gotta love the last lines "I WANT STUNT PAY! I WANT STUNT PAY!". XD

I swear today I saw a couple with hair just like Cosmo and Wanda. I wanted to take a picture but I was in a car and we didn't have time, thus I lost my one chance to prove the existence of FAIRY GOD PARENTS!!!! :P But you believe me, right? It was AWESOME, it brightened me up after yet another boring stressful morning. :)
And remember, Friday is Festivus, and although I know I'll never be able to talk my family into participating (since they've got the Christmas tree up and everything), BOY have I got some grievances to air.

There are many wonderful things you can experience in The Bay Area. A white Christmas is not one of them. :(
(There was a freak snowfall outside our house ONCE when I was very young, but not enough to make a snowman or even a snow ball.)
(And yes I know this writer's block question is from yesterday, but I thought "what the heck". Ain't no rule against it.)
Is it snowing where you are right now?

Today was supposed to be the day I picked up where I left off in my Garfield Christmas Advent Calendar. Last year I showed all the Christmas-themed strips from 1978-2002, and I was planning to start today to go from 2003-2011, buuuuuut you see, I am too exhausted. Yes you read that, I am literally too tired to dig through my photobucket for subpar Garfield strips and make snarky comments on them. I'm not bullshitting here. My brain is totally blank now. I'm on autopilot. This whole year has been exhausting; if the local hospital were an airline, I'd have gotten frequent flyer miles by now. -_-
But don't despair, I still have much to share (ha ha!); it's someone else who's also fuzzy, funny, debuted in 1978 and is also hated by the internet! :P Yes, another rare Robin Williams interview, this time in Australia, from 1996! I tell you, if it weren't for the fact that he was promoting The Birdcage, I'd have guessed this was from the 80s because his hair's the same way it was 10 years before in Night At The Met.
But not all of my recent findings are joyful: Some paparazzo had the fucking gall to post his constant stalking of Robin (during his honeymoon no less) on YouTube. AND THAT IS JUST ONE OF THREE VIDEOS. D: Jesus Christ, I get accusations of being a creep all the time, but this guy really and truly is. The paparazzi are less than SCUM and they get paid to do things that get ordinary people into the slammer. This guy's lucky Robin has the patience of a saint and not of Sean Penn. LEAVE THE POOR MAN ALONE, YOU VULTURES!
Wow, don't want to end this on a negative note, so here's a heartwarming holiday episode from a show about an loner with telekinetic powers sent to another land, who makes friends with a hard-working Earth girl and her family, a cloudcuckoolander who sometimes gets really creepy and talks to invisible people, and many many others; and every week has to make reports about what they learned to their superior. No, not the show in my icon; I of course mean Ponies. But you don't have to watch it if you don't want to, just a little fun to end the post (if TV Tropes weren't so goddamned authoritarian right now, I'd make a new account and put this comparison on the Surpisingly Similar Stories page. Hey, it's their loss).

03:03 pm - SOPA vote delayed
Yes, the internet is safe.... for now. Since it does say the new hearings will start in 2012, that could just mean we've got two weeks left... so let us spend them enjoying YouTube, and wikis, and so forth, but let us not keep our mind off ensuring SOPA doesn't pass when Congress is back in session. I mean, don't think I'm not happy about this, today was when I was supposed to call my local congresswoman, but I somehow ended up sleeping until 2:30 pm O_O , and then boy was I worried I wasted my last day on the free internet! Not this time. Did you know I spent last night trying to download most of my YouTube favs with one of the many video converters out there? It stopped working 5 videos in. My guess is that those sorts of sites were getting a lot of traffic that evening from folks who knew as well as I what SOPA would mean for YouTube.

Folks, now would be a good time to watch all your YouTube favorites before they're gone.
Or, you know, sign a friggin' petition, which I've been doing all day (there's plenty of them). Here, there's plenty to choose from (or do them all, even better!). And then watch your YouTube favorites.
I wonder if there are going to be riots tomorrow... I hope I've got the right clothes for that.

Ugh... due to the stress of having to get presents for everyone else (I hope they still like socks, because that's what I can afford) and STILL having this crummy cold hanging on (but not by much thankfully), I haven't been Christmas-spirited like I should be. I'm grouchy and easily provoked... but at least television is giving me what I want (and need). On Tuesday, The Survivors was on one of the Encore channels, and then on Wednesday I managed to catch the end of Cadillac Man on another Encore channel and then Night At The Museum 2 was on FX! :D And if all that weren't cool enough, on Wednesday night when I was hanging with my other family (comedians, that is), Hook was on NetFlix! :DDDDDDD I know I have it on DVD here, but I was like "What the hey?", and watched.... god, that movie is still so beautiful and sad and heartwarming after all these years. And I also realized it is better to watch it the whole way through instead of skipping ahead on DVD to when Robin loses the glasses and starts getting cute. Nope, more magical to watch the whole thing. And if you think I'm a nostalgiafag for loving that film, better throw me a parade because baby I am PROUD OF IT!
Oh yeah, before we watched Hook we watched a lot of 3rd Rock From The Sun (2nd greatest alien sitcom ever... okay maybe I'm a little biased) and A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas... unfortunately Road To The North Pole wasn't on there. In fact, the NetFlix FG selection didn't go past (ugh) Season 7. But as far as a night with the guys goes, that's a fucking cool selection of stuff.

It's another rarely-seen Robin Williams TV appearance from the 1980s, on Max Headroom's Giant Christmas Turkey! (Yes, this is the relevant part, but even then he's doesn't appear until 9:56... I hope you also like Bob Geldof because that's what you gotta sit through >_<) I gotta confess something, by the time I was aware of the world (age two or three, meaning '89 or '90), Max Headroom wasn't really a big thing anymore AFAIK, because I didn't see him much. All I remember were a bunch of parodies I didn't get. Maybe as a consequence of that, I just don't see what the big deal about him was. :\ I don't find him that funny either (no offense meant to Matt Frewer of course, who appeared in other cool stuff). But I guess that's pop culture phenomena for you. Whatever's the big thing in any given era, the people who were there at the time and loved it are usually always gonna love it, while the next generation is mostly stuck going "huh?". Not always the case, I know, but as a general rule... anyway, it was 1985 and Robin didn't do any movies that year, so really it's great he got SOME exposure that year. And look cute as always!

And also there's no real set theme to this post and I haven't used it in a while. Two days ago was Sylvan Productions Open Improv's last night at The Dark Room theater. Yes, We had to say goodbye to that lovely place... so many awesome Tuesday nights spent not just improvising but hanging with what I call my other family... but of course I'll see them again. But who I'll miss from The Dark Room is their pet/unofficial mascot, Maggie the dog. Poor girl has only one eye because she had to have it removed due to cancer I think, but she's an absolute sweetheart and she wasn't even there our last day so we couldn't say goodbye to her. :( Hopefully I'll see her next time I do Bad Movie Night.
But this is not the end of my Tuesday night exploits, because they found a new venue just a block down called the Sub-Mission. Now I've passed by there a lot but I've never actually seen in there. It's not a bar or anything, it's just... a venue. And despite the name, it's not an S&M club either (I think...). One chapter ends, a new one begins. At least I don't have to memorize a whole new route!
Meanwhile, still been watching a lot of The Match Game... I'm addicted. I don't know what it is. I started watching to look out for Mork & Mindy bit players (I want more Robert Donner!), but now I'm just diving in to it, and sometimes I'll be watching several eps in a row, and then once I get burned out I'm like: (And apparently this pic is a meme now... about time RW achieved memetic status... but would it be anal-retentive to point out this isn't the scene the quote is from? ANYWAY).
I think it's all because of Brett Somers really. She is my new comedic heroine (sadly I actually don't have many - Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the only other one I can think of). Maybe it's because I just know I'm going to look like her when I'm old (if I live that long). And what a magical time the 70s look like from my jaded, beat-down 21st Century lens, me living in an age when you can't get on TV if you're female and you're not a coat rack with beach balls stuffed into your front and you've been taking Botox since you were 15 (you'd better believe I've earned the right to be this bitchy). Talent? Pfft, who cares? As long as your body can be sold to people (*ahem* In digital/magazine form of course). But there she was! Middle-aged, crazy 70s clothes, thick glasses, and holy crap, she was hilarious. That's gonna be me I just know it... now if only I could find a snarky gay guy who smokes a pipe to trade jabs and wisecracks with, I'm in business... I know I could find one in SF (I'll settle for one with a hash pipe ;) ). Really, it's true. Brett and Charles Nelson Reilly made that show. And while looking for behind-the-scenes info I didn't find many references to them as friends using that direct word, I think they must have been. And I'm jealous. They both died within months of each other in 2007, so you can call that fate or sad coincidence. Shame it took me until now to discover them and The Match Game. :( But I shall keep watching, for in its own weird, dumb but funny way, it's inspiring to me. And god I love watching what they could get away with. I think it's the first time you were allowed to say "boobs" on television, right? Fucking revolutionary, I say. :P

I know I'm really late with this since the game's out already, but Robin Williams was in his latest Legend Of Zelda trailer by himself. Kinda weird considering the whole reason Nintendo chose him (or was it the other way around?) was because of his daughter... but you know what? He's awesome. I'm starting to wish I was rich enough to get a 3Ds and the games... and that I had enough patience and an attention span to actually play them. :P You know, these commercials have been really cool to see. Robin Williams and Nintendo... the epitome of awesomeness. :D But as I have said, at the same time I hope this won't be a trend for him. If I see him hawking ShamWows late at night, I might as well hang myself. Naaahhh, he wouldn't.
Oh yeah, and for you lucky UK folk, he was on the Graham Norton show tonight. Over here on the other hand, I have to wait until BBC America shows it or for when I'm lucky enough to catch it uploaded on YouTube during the two hours it will be up before the copyright banhammer comes down. :P
Oh, and if you want me to say anything about Thanksgiving, I'm too tired. I've had a hell of a week and my throat hurts. Nothing serious I think, but it's distracting so I can't write all eloquent and shit. >_< And last night was the first time I had a decent night's sleep in weeks! O_o

Okay, first things first: The Graham Norton interview with Robin on Radio 2 is up on the BBC website. The good news is that I didn't have any trouble with regional blocks and whatnot, so you all shouldn't either. The bad news is that Robin isn't interviewed until the last third of the program, but if you have the patience (which I don't, sorry), you might enjoy listening to music. And Hugh Laurie. Not that I don't like Hugh Laurie, but... anyway, it's gonna be up for a week, so better listen fast. Robin mentions Doctor Who! :D
And tomorrow, FINALLY Robin Williams' episode of Curiosity will air on The Discovery Channel. Here's a preview. Yes, unfortunately they're lumping in weed with meth, coke, and heroin. >_< Even if Robin won't get preachy, it's clear the producers might.Sheeit.... You know, I can never figure out Robin's position onmarijuana legalization. He makes jokes about stoners but he also notes that weed isn't addictive like alcohol and it doesn't make you angry like alcohol does (and he knows what he's talking about there I bet ;) ). I guess I'm gonna have to wait for another opportunity to ask him, or for a serious talk show host to ask him first. Oh boy... Well, at least I'll be able to booze it up guilt-free while watching it.

*sigh* It's been a rough day. All I wanted to do was be one of the first to see some freakin' adorable penguins (especially two very adorable ones ;) ), but first of all I got no sleep last night, staying up to watch Robin on Craig Ferguson (hil-fuckin-larious as usual) and then... well, it takes me a while to get sleepy on a normal night. I didn't rest until the early morning. And my dreams got pretty fucked up too. >_< But anyway, it's also a rainy day and those always get me depressed... but anyway, I was still determined. I shelled out the full $11 for the 3D showing. There was barely anyone there, and that got me worried (it later dawned on me that most people would be at school or work, duuuuh....), but the worst part was that during the previews, the projector started malfunctioning, so all six of us sat in the dark for ten minutes until I had finally had enough. I went out and told an employee (one of the snack guys, but he called someone relevant) and went back in to wait. After 5 more minutes a guy came in and apologized for the delay. We all got free passes to a future showing of any 3D film (neat, but I don't know what else I'm gonna wanna see), and after 5 more minutes of waiting, the projector got working again. Before the film, there was a 3D Sylvester & Tweety cartoon (ya rly) with the old song I Tawt I Taw A Puddy Tat. I swear to god, it really was like Tweety flew out of the screen... and I wanted to grab that yellow fucker and feed him to Sylvester once and for all (and why the fuck hasn't Granny been arrested on animal abuse charges? Jesus Christ. Yeah, I hate those cartoons, deal with it). I know that was a pretty depressing lead-in, but I wrote it all because going through all that? Worth it.
( SpoilersCollapse )ETA: OH YEAH AND ROBIN'S GONNA BE ON GRAHAM NORTON'S BBC RADIO 2 SHOW TOMORROW MORNING. *collapses* All these appearances, so little time. I hope they'll put it up online and not have a fucking regional block on it.

Also, on Ellen he debunked the rumor I read on Google news earlier this week that his new wife wants to adopt a baby with him. I was like O_o and I was planning on commenting on it, but since it's been Jossed (damn you TV Tropes), no reason to do that now. It's for the best, really.
